614 Prince St Georgetown, SC 29440

Listing details for 614 Prince St, Georgetown, SC 29440 : A unique opportunity to own a historic Georgetown property... This charming lovingly restored three-story home was built between in 1740 and 1750 and retains many of unique architectural features. Referred to locally as the Sampson-Hamby-Ward House, it is constructed of black cypress siding and retains original doors. In addition to a living room, dining room and den, the 3 bedroom, 2 bonus room, and 3 bath residence features both hardwood and heart of pine flooring. Mantles and molding details are noteworthy. Three fireplaces are fitted with gas logs. The design of the balusters of the stairway is identical with that of the Chancellor de Saussure House, (18 Montague Street, in Charleston) which is known to have been built before the Revolution. The double-tiered piazzas of this Georgian style dwelling overlook a well-manicured garden of native plants. The property also features what is presumed to be the original kitchen building containing a central chimney stack with double-braced cooking fireplaces. This is a grand example of early service architecture. Local artisans were engaged to create the hand-crafted fence and entry and driveway gates. Pieces of marble found in the original kitchen enhance the columns which bear gas lanterns. Architectural details and descriptions from the Historic American Building Survey completed in 1963 can be given upon request. This is a large city property which must be seen to be fully appreciated.
